Requirements and install

Product Bundles installs like every other extension sold here. Follow the shared procedure rather than a Product Bundles-specific one:

What is specific to Product Bundles

It needs OpenCart 4.1.0.1 or newer. This is the one extension sold here that does not go back to 4.0.2.0. See the exception on the requirements page for why. On an older store it declines to install, creates none of its tables, and says on its own screen which version you have and which you need. That includes 4.1.0.0, which has the piece of OpenCart a bundle needs and a column too narrow to hold anything written through it. See Limits.

It needs PHP 8.1 or newer, like everything sold here. Below that the install reports Success and does nothing; the PHP section of the requirements page says where to look.

It starts switched off. Installing it changes nothing in your storefront until you open Extensions → Extensions → Modules → Product Bundles, set Status on and press Save.

Permissions

The permission entry to tick at step 3 of the shared procedure is:

extension/product_bundles/module/product_bundles

That one opens the settings screen. Product Bundles has four more, each its own entry in System → Users → User Groups, so that you can hand out bundles without handing out the rest:

Entry What it opens Tick
extension/product_bundles/catalog/bundle Catalog → Bundles, where bundles are built Access and Modify
extension/product_bundles/sale/component Reports → Bundle components sold, which only reads Access
extension/product_bundles/customer/personal_data Customers → Personal Data Access
extension/product_bundles/customer/purge The screen that removes everything Product Bundles holds about a person Access and Modify

The user group that installs Product Bundles is given all of these automatically. Every other group is given none of them: a shop assistant who should build bundles needs the catalog/bundle entry ticked, and nothing else of yours. Catalog → Bundles and Reports → Bundle components sold each appear in the menu only for a group that can open them.

Looking somebody up on Customers → Personal Data, and erasing them there, is also guarded by OpenCart's own customer/customer Modify permission, which a group that already handles customers has.

What it stores

Nine tables of its own, all prefixed product_bundles_: seven hold the bundles you build (their names, components, prices, shops, categories, filters and reward points), and two hold what each past order's bundle lines contained. Each bundle also keeps one row in OpenCart's own product table, its carrier, which is what a cart line points at. You edit a bundle on its own form, never the carrier.

What this holds about a person lists every column that is about somebody, and what removes it.

Updating and uninstalling

An update keeps your bundles and every order's record of what shipped. No table is ever dropped. It does switch the module off, puts every tickbox under Where bundles show back on and Bundles shown back to 4, because OpenCart deletes an extension's settings at the uninstall step of an update, and it takes the layout module off every layout you placed it on. Every bundle is off sale until you switch it back on, so switch it back on, and place the module again, straight after updating. Status off says what else waits for the switch. The changelog lists exactly what is asked for again.

Uninstalling keeps your data too, and stops every bundle selling. The carriers are disabled rather than deleted, so past orders still point at them. Install it again and switch Status on, and each carrier is re-enabled to match what its bundle says. To remove what Product Bundles holds about your customers, use the button on its settings screen before you uninstall; uninstalling does not do it. See Limits.
