Settings

Advanced Product Filters keeps its settings in OpenCart's own setting table, under the module_product_filters group. You set them at Admin > Extensions > Extensions > Modules > Advanced Product Filters.

Each key below carries where it applies. per store means a multi-store install can hold a different answer per storefront, and both are honoured: a read takes what that store holds, then what the default store holds, then the shipped default. install-wide means one thing serves every storefront, and the key's own description names that one thing.

General

Key Default What it does
module_product_filters_status
per store
0 Whether the filter panel shows on this store's category, brand, search and specials pages. Off by default, so installing changes nothing on the storefront until you switch it on; install has already placed the panel on the layouts those pages use, and those placements render nothing while this is off. A store that has never saved its own answer follows the default store.

Facets

facet — install-wide

The Facets list: which facets the panel offers, and in what order, set on the Facets tab. One row per facet — Price, Brand, Category and Availability, and each filter group, each option of type select, radio or checkbox, and each attribute. A facet with no row is on at sort order 0, so an attribute created last week appears without a trip to the settings. Facets with equal sort order fall into a fixed order by source: Price, Brand, Category, filter groups, options, attributes, Availability, and within a source the order the catalogue already gives them. A row whose filter group, option or attribute has been deleted is ignored rather than deleted. Kept by its own table, which an update never drops.

  • status — Whether the panel offers this facet. Off hides it and drops any value of it from a link, as if it were not there. Starts at 1.
  • sort_order — Where the facet sits in the panel, lowest first. Starts at 0.

Advanced

Key Default What it does
module_product_filters_diary_verbose_until
install-wide
0 When detailed logging stops, as a unix timestamp, and 0 is off. Turning Detailed logging on from this extension's settings form stores the moment two days from now; the writer compares that against the clock every time it is asked for a DEBUG line, so the window closes on its own with no scheduled task and nothing to clean up. While it is open this extension records what it did in far more detail, and the shared diary consequently holds less history.

What you cannot change, and why

These are fixed on purpose. Each one is a decision with a reason beside it rather than a setting nobody got round to adding.

General

There is no switch per product listing. Placing the module on a layout in Design > Layouts is the switch, and a page takes the layout core's own rule resolves for it (#1153).

There is no setting per placement and none for the phone copy. The module is never told which position it sits in; the stylesheet decides how each copy looks (#1153).

Facets

Every facet is one list of checkboxes, and Price is two number boxes. A radio button or a drop-down would allow one value per facet, which breaks the rule the counts are built on: values within a facet widen the listing, facets narrow it. A slider and a pill bar were considered and rejected (#1151).

Facet titles and value names are the catalogue's own: filter group, option, attribute and brand names as you entered them in Catalog. The Brand, Price, Availability and Category titles and "In stock" are language strings, edited the way every other storefront string is, not copy on this screen (#1153).

Values keep the order the catalogue already gives them: filters and option values by their sort order, brands by name, categories as the storefront menu orders them. To hide a value, edit the catalogue or switch the facet off; a second order kept here would be a second place to edit it (#1153).

A facet shows its first values and folds the rest behind Show more.

Rule Value
Values shown before Show more 6

Every facet is open. On a phone the whole panel already folds into one Filter button, so a per-facet collapse would fold twice (#1151).

Every value shows how many products ticking it would give. Core's Category Product Count setting is not honoured here and keeps governing core's own modules: a facet value without its count is a guess the shopper pays for with an empty page (#1153).

In stock means a quantity above zero, whatever stock status label a product shows. Labels such as "2-3 Days" or "Pre-Order" are free text a filter cannot rank (#1153).

An attribute value is its exact text, with case and accents compared the way the database compares them. Text is not split on commas and numbers are not turned into ranges: either guess is wrong for some catalogue, and an exact value never is (#1153).

A value that would give no products is hidden rather than shown greyed out, unless it is ticked. A facet left with nothing to offer is hidden too (#1151).
