Guides

Each guide is written for something you are trying to do. Settings are named as they appear at Extensions → Extensions → Modules → Advanced Product Filters → Edit.

Launch the panel on one store first

Status is kept per store. Pick the store in the Store box on the General tab of the settings screen, switch Status on and save. A store you have never saved follows the default store, so switch the default store on last if you want the others to wait.

The Facets list is one list for every store, and it is on the default store's form only.

Choose which facets show, and in what order

Open the Facets tab. One row per facet: Price, Brand, Category and Availability, and each filter group, each option of type select, radio or checkbox, and each attribute. Switch Enabled off for a facet nobody narrows by; it disappears from the panel, and a link that still names it behaves as if it did not. Sort Order moves a facet, lowest first. Facets with the same sort order fall into a fixed order: Price, Brand, Category, filter groups, options, attributes, Availability.

A facet you add to the catalogue later, a new attribute for example, is on until you switch it off.

To hide one value rather than a whole facet, edit the catalogue: values come from your products, so a filter no product carries is never offered.

Bring the counts up to date after an import

Saving products in admin keeps the counts current on its own. A bulk import that writes straight to the database does not, Import/export included. After one, open the Facets tab and press Rebuild. The time it finished shows beside the button. The storefront keeps showing its facets while it runs.

The nightly job on Extensions → Cron Jobs does the same once a day. You can pause it or change its schedule there, and an update keeps your choice.

Move the panel, or take it off a layout

The panel is an ordinary module on Design → Layouts: Advanced Product Filters in Column Left and Content Top of the layouts your listings use. Move it to Column Right, change its sort order among other modules, or delete a placement, and save the layout. An update keeps what you did.

Keep a copy in Content Top if phones should have filters: OpenCart's theme hides the side columns below 768px. On a wide screen the Content Top copy hides itself wherever a column copy is on the same page.

A category or brand you gave a layout of its own does not get the panel until you place it on that layout yourself.

Put facets on search results

Install Product Search 1.5.0 or later and switch it on. The search page then shows the panel over the products Product Search matched, and a tick narrows Product Search's own results. Without Product Search the search page has no panel; see limits.

Rename a facet or "In stock"

The titles Brand, Price, Category and Availability, the value In stock, and the panel's buttons are storefront language strings in extension/product_filters/catalog/language/<language>/module/product_filters.php. Every other name in the panel is your catalogue's own: rename the filter group, option, attribute or brand in Catalog and the panel follows. Editing our language file directly is lost at the next update, which replaces it.
