Channels and their fields

Every field each channel asks for, and what a value has to look like to be accepted. This is the list the Fields tab renders and the list the generator writes from, so a field named here is a field your feed can carry.

The tiers are the channels' own, and only one of them is a blocker:

Tier	What it means
Required	The channel refuses a product with nothing in this field, so Product Feed leaves that product out of the feed and counts it.
Recommended	The channel takes the product either way and does less with it. Fields that stand in for each other are here, which is why a recommended field is never a red badge.
Optional	Sent if you have it.

A field with nothing mapped and no fallback is left out of the file rather than sent empty — an empty element is a value a channel reads as an answer. The exception is a CSV feed, where every column is written for every row because a row that skipped one would move every value after it into the wrong heading.

Google Shopping

Google comes and fetches the file from the feed's own URL. Seven fields are required, which is the set Google refuses an item without. gtin, mpn and identifier_exists are listed as recommended rather than required because they stand in for each other — a product with an MPN and no barcode is a product Google accepts — so a feed missing all three is coarse rather than invalid.

Meta

Meta comes and fetches the file from the feed's own URL, and reads the same document Google does. Two of its rules differ, and both are Meta's: brand and condition are required, so a store with no manufacturer on a product has a valid Google feed and an invalid Meta one; and the category is sent as Google's full path rather than as the numeric id. OpenCart has no condition column, so condition is the field a fallback literal — new — is what you want on.

Microsoft Advertising

Microsoft Advertising takes a file you upload yourself, so this feed has no URL and no token: you regenerate it and press Download. The file is a CSV, and a CSV row is positional — every column the channel declares is written for every product, empty where the field resolved to nothing. gtin and mpn are listed as recommended although Microsoft's own table calls both required, because required here means the product is left out of the feed, and a store that has never recorded a barcode would get an empty file rather than one Microsoft matches on title and brand. Three attributes Microsoft requires — the channel, the content language and the target country — are properties of a submission rather than columns of a file, and are set once in Microsoft Merchant Center.
