Troubleshooting

For an install that did not work at all (a blank admin page, a missing menu entry, a permission error), start with troubleshooting an install, which is the same for every extension sold here. What follows is specific to Product Configurator.

Whatever the symptom, Product Configurator wrote down what it did and what it refused to do, in a file your own admin downloads in one click. See what Kyvero extensions log.

There is no Configurator tab on the product form

In order:

  • Is the module enabled? Extensions → Extensions → Modules → Product Configurator → Edit, Status set to Enabled, saved. With it off, nothing is added to the product form.
  • Is this a variant? A product with a master has no Configurator tab. Its options are its master's and so are its rules, so write them on the master.
  • Has your theme replaced the admin product form? The tab is inserted into OpenCart's own form beside its own tabs. A form that has been rewritten to the point that the insertion cannot be placed is left as it was, on purpose, so that the product form is never broken. Saving a product from that form leaves its rules as they were, because a form without the tab posts none and the module then stores nothing; write the rules from a form the tab does appear on. See what the admin will and will not stop you doing.

Nothing hides on the storefront

The rules are still enforced when the customer adds to the cart. This section is about the instant hiding only.

  • Is JavaScript running? Without it every option shows. That is the designed fallback, and the server still refuses what the rules forbid.
  • Does the product actually have rules? The page is only rewritten for a product that has at least one rule that resolves, and so are the swatches. The Change options link on the cart needs only a rule.
  • Do the rules still name options this product has? A rule whose option has been detached does nothing. Open the Configurator tab and look for No longer on this product:.
  • Does your theme use OpenCart's own add-to-cart form? The script is placed by finding that form. A theme that has rewritten it keeps its own page and loses the hiding, the same behaviour as JavaScript being off.
  • Is a condition written on a value that is sold out? OpenCart removes sold-out values from the page, so a condition naming one can never hold.
  • Does the line's product have rules? Only a line whose product (or, for a variant, whose master) has at least one rule gets the link.
  • Is the module enabled? With it off, the cart is OpenCart's own.
  • Does your theme use OpenCart's own cart list? The link is placed by finding it. A theme whose cart list is structurally different keeps its own page, without the link, and the customer edits a line by removing it and adding the product again.

A customer says an option they need is missing

Read the rules on that product as sentences. The two most common causes:

  • A show rule with a condition nobody meets. Naming a target in a show rule makes it hidden by default, so a show rule whose condition is never true is an option nobody ever sees. If you meant offer this normally, except when…, the verb is hide.
  • A hide rule that is wider than you thought. A rule with one condition fires on every configuration that includes that answer.

Build the configuration yourself on the storefront. The page reflects the rules immediately, so the sentence that is wrong is usually obvious within a couple of clicks.

A refusal names an option the customer did fill in

The message reads …required against a control the customer did answer. It means the answer named a value the rules forbid, on a required option: OpenCart's one lever is required and empty, so the forbidden answer is withdrawn and OpenCart refuses the option as unanswered.

It is reachable only from a page that no longer matches the rules: a tab left open across a rule change, a resubmitted form, a hand-built request. A reload gives the customer a page that agrees with the rules. See what the server refuses for why the wording is left as OpenCart's.

An option shows nothing selectable

Every value of it is hidden, either by rules or because OpenCart has filtered sold-out values away, or both.

If the option is also required, that configuration cannot be bought. Open the product's Configurator tab: when every value is sold out and a rule requires or shows the option, the warning above the rules says so. It does not see values hidden by your own value rules, so find the value rules aimed at that option as well, and check the option's stock on OpenCart's own Option tab.

Rules did not save

  • Did the product save? Rules are written only when OpenCart saved the product. A product form that came back with a validation error saved nothing, neither the product nor its rules.
  • May you modify products? Rules are stored under the same permission that saves the product, checked again when they are written. A user group without Modify on Catalog → Products cannot write rules, whatever else it can reach.
  • Was the row finished? A rule with no verb, no target or no condition is dropped rather than stored half-written. So is a rule with any condition left on its placeholder: it is dropped whole, not stored with the conditions that were finished, because fewer conditions would make it fire for more customers than you meant. Everything else saves, including a rule that does nothing useful yet. A require rule aimed at a single value is dropped the same way, because OpenCart has no required flag on a value.

A copied product configures wrongly, or not at all

  • A copy carries its rules, and lands disabled. If the copy configures the way the original did, that is working as intended; change what differs and enable it.
  • A promoted variant carries none. Deleting a master product turns its variants into standalone products, and they lose the rules they were inheriting. Use Copy rules from on each one's Configurator tab to take the rules from a product that still has them, or write them again.

Copy rules from is missing, or copies nothing

  • Can your group store rules? The row appears only for a user group with access to this extension's route and permission to modify products.
  • Is the product a variant? A variant has no Configurator tab: its rules are its master's.
  • Did you pick the product from the list? Typing its name is not enough: the button only answers Pick a product from the list first. until a product is picked from the suggestions, and typing over the name afterwards unpicks it.
  • Did it say That product has no rules? A product with none, or a variant whose master has none, gives nothing to copy, and the tab is left as it was.
  • Did it say The rules could not be fetched? The request for the other product's rules got no usable answer, often because your admin session has expired. Nothing on the tab has changed; sign in again if you need to, and press the button again.

A rule change did not reach a cart

It cannot. A line already in the cart keeps the configuration it was added with, through checkout and onto the order, and nothing re-checks it, which is also what OpenCart does with its own option validation. See cart lines and orders.
